Hey, so I suggested this on discord but figured it'll be seen more here.

Basically, we're a pretty close community as it is, and so I think it'd be fun if we could have server-wide events where we hop on some (other) servers and just all play together. (Or Dienns can program some small little game for us, idk, whatever works).

Before you say well you can do this already and we've already done so... What I'm talking about is like setting a date in the future and announcing it in #announcements and trying to get together everyone. It'll be a fun community thing we can do, so yeah.

I couldn't agree more, it would be really fun, and also it is a nice idea to get the community back...

Definetly a good idea, though there is one fairly small problem we have to solve. What time do we start. We could either have a dedicated time slot or just run it all day. Generally i've found 4-6pm EST on friday/saturday to be a perfect time. It's not too far into the night for EU, AUS are waking up and obv its day for NA.

It really depends on what you want to do and what the scope of it is. If we have Dyescape specific (in-game) events, then programming, implementing and announcing them wouldn't be a problem. There are a bit of problems when you want to play on a different server (for example) with a group of a few people. It is perfectly possible to simply put this in one of the Discord channels, and who knows where our Discord server will be in some time. Maybe it'll become stupidly large with countless channel or other ways to form small groups. The problem is that Dyescape at some point (hopefully) will have thousands, if not tens of thousands of players.

    If we would do as stated here;
then trust me; you're not gonna be able to count how many people you're gonna play with. As also mentioned in the Discord, by all means I am open to implement anything for a better community, but I don't think we can handle these kind of things from so far up. If you want to play on a minigame server with like 6 to 10 people, by all means feel free to. I just don't think that we as Dyescape (as an organisation) can do a lot to assist here. Best we can probably do is make sure we allow for a good communication between users, such as making dynamic Discord channels, proper in-game channels, using the Dyescape Bot for... stuff, maybe. But I really don't think that announcing these kind of things will work for a long time, at least not with the growth we expect. If you have some ideas, please share them.

I agree that when Dyesape has its tens of thousands of players this will be unfeasible, but by then we won't need to go on other servers, because we'd have Dyescape! The point of this is more like right now where we can count everyone and have a rough idea of who'd show up because we don't have a huge abundance of regulars on the discord (I'd estimate like 20 daily regulars). I think you may be overestimating this idea as well, it could span from just opening a vanilla server and letting us play survival for a bit or go on Hypixel and play party games for an hour.

I think @KabbyDankGod brings up a good point with timing, considering were like half NA and half EU. We'd need to pick something in between or have separate events for both timezones

Understandable. But do note that we are not going to use the announcement channel for these kind of things. My head will be virtually cut off if I put something in announcements which has nothing to do with alpha. Would a #events channel work, where we simply post something along the lines of "On date X, we will go in a voice chat and play on Hypixel, 7:00 UTC time"? I'd be fine with that. Though, for the purpose of such channel, should everyone be able to chat in it? If so, people should only post actual events and not discuss any imo.

Exactly what I thought. An #events channel would be nice, and you're idea for it is perfect.. have the channel allow chat from anyone, so anyone can post events, but moderate and disallow discussion. Maybe an #events-discussion to go along with #events or we can use #gaming.

Would personally just use the other respective channels, so we don't mix discussions of different events. For example, @TheJayZ could discuss his cooking show event in #food while someone else could discuss his game event in #gaming. Similarly, people can discuss their music related event in #music, and so on.

I'd be fine with making such #event channel if it helps the community. Naturally, needs to be moderated properly and we can set a channel topic to prevent confusion. @Aekalix anything you want to add to this? Seems like a fine idea to keep the community together.

Just got an idea for moderating it, since you're making the dyescape bot, make it remove all messages that don't follow a format like:

    Description:
    Where:
    Start time:
    End time:

I'm not gonna do any more cooking events if #food is filled with cursed material that michael and stefan post.

I like the idea, but then again, the foremost reason why this has not been done yet is that it requires time. Players can already host their own events or have hosted 'community events' (playing on Hypixel with all available). Official ones would be a lot of fun, indeed, but those would still be put on hold on my end till I am done with school.

That's not what's being suggested though. What is being suggested is that we add some kind of channel to Discord, for example, where people can schedule their own events. They don't have to be Dyescape events. It's just people hooking up together to do stuff. What is being suggested is that we add some kind of channel where users can post their own events. Channels like #gaming, #music, etc can still be used to debate about them. Something like #events would purely be used by users to post that they want to play on Hypixel on a certain day for example.

So, to summerize it, all they want is a #events channel which helps them (the community, not Dyescape) schedule events (if event is even the right word for this).

You wrote the same thing three times haha.

I know that. But #events sounds official hence I'd assume its more focused towards official events (didn't read the full thread, apologies). Moreover, unofficial events were already hosted by people in #gaming thus I found it odd.

But if you think a channel will help players organising these things then why not.

The difference is that in #gaming, if I post something like "Hey lets all play Hypixel this sunday at 2 UTC-2" it will quickly get lost and no one will see it. Eventually when Dyescape releases you can change the purpose of #events to be official dyescape events, or rename it.

Then keep this thread or make a new thread for this kind of posts then use #gaming for discussions. Group Messages in Discord is also a thing.
Creating a new #event channel would just confuse Dyescape players and mostly the newcomers. They'll think that Dyescape is just a group of MC players who hops in different server from time to time which isn't the reason why they joined our channel.

I dont mind Dyescape players visiting random servers. It is beyond our control, but if the Staff team will manage this stuff, we better discuss this first as there would always be advantages and disadvantages.
Also, even without a dyescape staff member managing this, you all can still form your own team.

You realize that 95% of our activity is in discord right? No one will see time-sensitive threads here besides for a few, and it'll unnecessarily clutter the forums. We have made group messages but obviously I can't add everyone in dyescape in a group message, (I could but that'd be insane). The idea is for it to be an open-ended invite to anyone that wants to play.

I just disagree. Other servers have LFG like channels (Mineplex, Hypixel), and this is basically what it'd be. It's pretty evident that this is a server just from scanning the discord and looking at the website.

We've been discussing this suggestion for the entire thread, IMO the cons are pretty limited if at all. It doesn't even really require staff moderation since it can be automated with the dyescape bot.

I'm fair with implementing this is @MrDienns makes it so the bot removes anything besides that format and that someone can only post such format every x hours.

    It shall be done.

Consider this idea implemented by the time the bot is ready for it (the upcoming days).
